Selena Gomez opened up about how vaping has permanently affected her voice. In an Instagram Story post on October 18, the 34-year-old singer admitted heavy nicotine use altered her vocal quality. “I vaped nicotine a lot… it’s so stupid, and it’s changed my voice,” she said. Gomez acknowledged her voice may never fully recover, telling fans who dislike the change to “just don’t listen.” On a positive note, she confirmed she has quit vaping and encouraged others struggling with nicotine addiction. “If you are going through something, you can get through it too,” she said. Gomez also lives with bipolar disorder and lupus, both of which can contribute to vocal changes. Her Hulu series, Only Murders in the Building, returns December 8.
