Disney+ and Disney Channel have ordered a pilot for a television adaptation of the 2006 cult film Aquamarine. Emma Roberts, who starred in the original movie, will guest star as her character Claire Brown and serve as executive producer. Sarah Watson, creator of Freeform’s The Bold Type, wrote the pilot. Original film director Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum returns to direct and executive produce, alongside original producer Susan Cartsonis. The new series follows teenager Coral, who moves to a seaside town and discovers her mother was a mermaid, unlocking her own magical powers. The original film, based on Alice Hoffman’s novel, also starred JoJo Levesque and Sara Paxton.
