KAMLOOPS — Year-end totals published by the City of Kamloops Building Inspection Division show $415.4 million in construction permits were issued last year. That surpasses the former record of $395.1 million set in 2020.
Residential building boomed in 2022, representing about 57 per cent of total construction value. The city says 816 residential units were started during the year — more than twice the 2021 total.
But commercial construction was strong as well in 2022, with $161.7 million in major projects moving ahead. That’s nearly three times the value of commercial construction in Kamloops during 2021.
