Mustard Seed to operate Yacht Club as 24/7 winter shelter until end of March
KAMLOOPS — The Mustard Seed has announced it will operate the Yacht Club as a winter shelter 24/7 until the end of March 2023.
In a news release issued Monday (Nov. 28) morning, the Mustard Seed says 19 of its fulltime staff, and security personnel, will be on-site during shelter operations. The Yacht Club is leased by BC Housing and the City and provides 20 beds for those living unsheltered.
“At The Mustard Seed, we believe everyone needs a warm, safe place to be, off the streets in from the cold winter weather,” Kelly Thomson, Mustard Seed Kamloops managing director says. “We have completed the training and orientation of another 15 staff to be able to operate this facility full-time for the balance of the winter months.”
BC Housing has provided funding for shelter operating costs during the winter months.
The Mustard Seed is also operating an overnight warming shelter at Kamloops Alliance Church.
