Interior Health evacuates Merritt care home residents, Nicola Valley Hospital patients

MERRITT — In response to flooding related evacuation orders in Merritt, Interior Health says it has evacuated care home residents and patients in the Nicola Valley Hospital.

In a release, the health authority says this includes residents from Coquihalla Gillis House, Nicola Meadows, and The Florentine, as well as patients from the hospital and all community health clients.

Given that the hospital in Merritt and its emergency department are shut down, people who require emergency care are urged to call 9-1-1 or visit the ERs in Kelowna or Kamloops.

Interior Health did not state where residents were moved, however anyone who needs to confirm their loved one’s evacuated location can call 1-877-442-2001.
