‘Mary Poppins’ Set For Darker TV Reboot Based On Original Novels

A new television series based on Mary Poppins may be in development, with a notably darker tone than previous film adaptations. According to Deadline, the reboot would draw from P.L. Travers’s original novels, where the beloved nanny is described as “more mysterious, mercurial and dangerous than her film incarnation.” Adventures in the books are said to be “magical, surreal and sometimes frightening.” Julie Andrews originated the role in the 1964 classic, with Emily Blunt taking it on in 2018. While Disney is not actively involved, early conversations with the company are reportedly underway. A Disney+ home for the series remains undetermined.
