Woman in Merritt with loaded rifle arrested by RCMP
MERRITT, B.C. — A woman is in custody after Merritt RCMP found a prohibited rifle hidden in her belongings during an arrest Wednesday (June 5) morning.
S/Sgt. Josh Roda said in a press release that the police were first called to the scene of a fist fight behind Save On Foods at around 8:15 a.m. Wednesday.
When officers arrived, the woman attempted to leave on a bicycle, but was arrested nearby.
Roda’s email said that the search incidental to the arrest led officers to find a loaded prohibited rifle with a silencer on it, concealed in the woman’s belongings.
The RCMP also noted that the man and woman were known to each other and that the police would be recommending that charges be laid to the B.C. Prosecution Service.
The investigation is continuing.
