Blazers win fourth straight divisional title after defeating Rockets 7-2
KELOWNA — The Kamloops Blazers went to Kelowna on Saturday (Mar.5) with a chance to clinch the B.C. division for the fourth consecutive year. The club accomplished that feat after defeating the Rockets 7-2 at Prospera Place.
Olen Zellweger opened the scoring for Kamloops, firing his 23rd on the year to make it 1-0 Blazers. Andrew Cristall of the Rockets answered back at 13:33 of the opening frame to tie the game 1-1. Two more goals would come on the Blazers side thanks to Caedan Bankier and Connor Levis, who would ultimately would be credited with the game winning goal to make it 3-1 Blazers.
Five goals combined would be scored within the second and third period between the two clubs as Kamloops would officially clinch the B.C. division title and improve to 40-11-4-2 on the year.
The Blazers will begin a two game road trip in Seattle on Tuesday (Mar.7) to take on the Thunderbirds, who have the best record in the WHL’s Western Conference at 47-9-1-1 on the season. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
