Ashcroft firefighter and police charity game raises nearly $12,000 for Honour Ranch
ASHCROFT, B.C. — A charity hockey game in Ashcroft raised nearly $12,000 for Honour Ranch.
On Jan. 21, the village’s local firefighters and RCMP officers played in the third annual Guns and Hoses charity game at Ashcroft’s Drylands Arena. The hosers won 5-3 in front of a packed arena, but it was Honour Ranch – the charity that provides mental health support to first responders and military personnel – that ended up being the biggest winners.
“In total, $11,990 was raised to support Honour Ranch through the event,” Ashcroft RCMP Cst. Richard Wright says. “I have been in the Ashcroft community for almost two years now and I continue to be amazed by the kindness and community spirit I see every day. Guns and Hoses will be back in 2024 and we will continue to build this event for the community and to support worthy causes.”
The event itself raised over $10,000 through donations, raffles, 30/70 draws, and a puck toss. Meanwhile, police say the RCMP union, the National Police Federation, made a $1,500 donation before the game, and $490 was gifted through online donations.
A further $6,000 was raised by the Lions Club and Tim Hortons through the Smile Cookie program.
