ASK Wellness to open warming stations at Crossroads Inn, Spero House next week
KAMLOOPS — ASK Wellness is stepping in to offer warming centres for people experiencing homelessness in Kamloops — but only for a limited time.
In a news release, the agency says a cold front is forecast to move into the B.C. Interior next week, bringing overnight lows between zero and -10 Celsius.
The City of Kamloops had planned to offer overnight winter shelters at two locations in the city, beginning November 1. However, that plan was scrubbed when its operator, the Canadian Mental Health Association, announced it was backing out just days prior to the opening.
Now ASK Wellness says it will open warming stations at Crossroads Inn (569 Seymour St.) and Spero House (317 Tranquille Rd.).
ASK plans to have the centres open 24-hours-a-day, for the week of Monday, November 7 to Friday, November 11.
The agency says donations of new or gently used blankets and clothing will be accepted at both locations, or at its headquarters at 433 Tranquille Rd.
