Merritt Fire Rescue plans prescribed burn

MERRITT, B.C. – Merritt Fire Rescue is getting prepared to execute a prescribed burn in the area.

As part of an ongoing prescribed fuel management project, crews are scheduled to do a burn in the Bench area starting November 7, if conditions allow it.

Officials said smoke is expected to be seen in the Bench area as they process roughly 100 hand piles to reduce the overall wildfire risk to the community.

Merritt Fire Rescue would also like to remind residents to practice FireSmart procedures as no area in the community is entirely safe from wildfires but they can be reduced.
