Rathor unseats Cobb for Williams Lake mayor’s chair
WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Williams Lake residents have chosen Surinderpal Rathor to be their mayor.
Preliminary results of Saturday’s election saw Rathor gather 34.1 per cent of the vote to take the top spot. He defeated councillor Jason Ryll (28.1 per cent), incumbent mayor Walt Cobb (24.2 per cent) and former mayor Kerry Cook (13.4 per cent).
Rathor served on council for 21 years prior to 2014. This was his third attempt at the mayor’s chair.
Rathor will oversee a new-look council.
While five incumbents were running for council spots, only two were elected — Sheila Boehm and Scott Nelson. Ivan Bonnell, Marnie Brenner and Craig Smith were all defeated.
Boehm and Nelson will be joined by newcomers Joan Flaspohler, Michael Moses, Angie Delaney and Jazmyn Lyons.
