Raine to serve another mayoral term, but Sun Peaks will have a mostly new council
SUN PEAKS, B.C. — The mayor of Sun Peaks will serve another term.
Ahead of nominations closing for B.C. municipal elections on Sept. 9, a list from CivicInfo BC shows incumbent Al Raine has been acclaimed to serve another term as Sun Peaks’ mayor. He was also acclaimed in 2018.
Raine’s confirmation of a second term comes six months after he initially said he wouldn’t seek re-election.
While the mayor’s seat remains the same, Sun Peaks will have a mostly new council in 2022. Rob O’Toole is the only incumbent councillor seeking another term. Mario Pozza, Ines Popig and Darcy Alexander will not seek re-election.
In addition to O’Toole, eight outsiders are looking to get into council. The list is:
- Daniel Ashton
- Kelly Dye
- Afifa Eidher
- Lenard Hrycan
- Julie Kimmel
- Jody Oetter
- Harold Richins
- Brennan Sorge
Candidates have until Friday, Sept. 16 to withdraw their names from the ballot.
The B.C. municipal elections will take place Oct. 15, 2022.
