Western Canada Theatre announces 2022/23 performances
KAMLOOPS — Western Canada Theatre (WCT) is preparing for another season of play productions. WCT will take to the stage with seven productions this year, all differing in genre.
Artistic Director James MacDonald says the production schedule includes Canadian comedies, a sequel to a fan-favourite production, a radio play of It’s a Wonderful Life, and the popular musical Grease.
When choosing which stories to tell, MacDonald says they try to include something for everybody and make the plays topical. For example, one of the comedies, Hurry Hard, is based around a curling rink and set to take the stage in February — around when the 2023 Scotties will be coming to Kamloops.
MacDonald says their goal is to provide a theatre experience that will bring people together.
“There’s so many people in the last few years who have said, ‘Oh, we paired up with another couple or another family and we come to the theatre together.’ We’re going to pair it out with a great night on the town and go out for dinner before or afterward,” explains MacDonald, “and that’s the kind of experiences we’re trying to encourage people to have.”
