Merritt council approves feasibility study for performing arts centre
MERRITT, B.C. — As a followup to a presentation from the Nicola Valley Theatre Society two weeks ago, Merritt City Council voted to approve undertaking a feasibility study for a performing arts centre.
The study will be completely funded by the Theatre Society with minimal staff time as the project will be completed by an outside consultant.
There were concerns raised at the table regarding priorities, which was appeased by the outside consultant, and around bringing in proper public input on the matter. Staff noted that at this stage, a feasibility study is needed to then present to the public.
With no financial or time related risks, council voted 6-0 in favour of the study.
Council also voted to explore the possibility of buying the Society’s land at the Railyard Mall.
